Europa ist mehr als eine Region auf dem Globus und mehr als die Europäische Union. Europäer werden vereint durch eine gemeinsame Geschichte, gemeinsame Herausforderungen in der Gegenwart und Visionen der Zukunft. Europa selbst ist ein vielfältiger Kontinent mit vielen Ländern, verschiedenen Kulturen und Religionen sowie verschiedenen sozialen und ökonomischen Verhältnissen. Diese Mischung macht es manchmal schwierig, einheitliche Positionen und Übereinkünfte zu besetzen. Nichtsdestotrotz ist es weit wichtiger, dass diese Vielfältigkeit alle Teile von Europa und die Menschen dort mit verschiedenen Hintergründen bereichert, indem sie zusammenkommen und ihr Leben teilen. Durch das Zusammenleben über Staatsgrenzen hinaus und jenseits von beschränkten Horizonten werden europäische Bürger sich über das Leben von anderen beweusst und leben in Solidarität miteinander. Bei all den Unterschieden und gerade durch sie kann Europa in Vielfalt geeint sein, wenn Europäer diese Vielfalt leben wollen!

Europe is more than a regional part of the globe and more than the European Union. Europeans are united by a common history, shared challenges in the present and visions of the future. Europe itself is a diverse continent with many countries, different cultures and religions, as well as different social and economic situations. This mixture makes it sometimes difficult to find common positions and agreements. Nevertheless, much more important is that this diversity enriches all parts of Europe and people from different backgrounds, when they come together and share their lives. By living together across national borders and beyond narrow horizons, European citizens become aware of the other's life and live in solidarity with each other. With all these differences, and because of them, Europe can be united in diversity, if Europeans want to live this diversity!
